Sara Nelson MSN, FNP-C Integrative Family Nurse Practitioner

Sara is a board-certified Integrative Family Nurse Practitioner with a decade of experience as an Emergency Room and Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse. Her transition to primary care was driven by a desire to intervene earlier in patients’ health journeys—before hospitalization became necessary. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner) from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.

Sara is deeply committed to partnering with patients at every stage of their wellness journey. She integrates conventional and complementary medicine to create individualized care plans, believing that both approaches are essential to optimal healing. Her philosophy embraces the strengths and limitations of all healing modalities, with a focus on what works best for each unique individual.

Her clinical interests include mental health support through physiological healing, brain and gastrointestinal health, autoimmune conditions, and the nuanced impacts of alternative relationship styles on overall well-being. She brings experience in managing liver disease, gastrointestinal disorders, hematologic conditions, cancer, and stroke. Sara is a passionate advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, celebrating the richness of varied human experiences.

Outside of clinical practice, Sara enjoys exploring global cuisines, sipping decaf in Portland’s coffee shops, and tending her garden. She shares her life with two long-term partners in a polyamorous relationship and offers a welcoming space for patients navigating nontraditional relationship dynamics. Her adventurous spirit finds expression in rock climbing, ski mountaineering, canyoneering, and hiking—always seeking to stay wild and connected to nature.
