Jeff Schmied, L.Ac., DAcCHM
Today’s social and economic conditions place an incredible amount of pressure on our systems, leaving us vulnerable to disorders that take root in our overworked, overextended lives. I began studying acupuncture and herbal medicine to help hardworking people find their way back to health while navigating the incredible demands of today’s world.
After 20 years of working for large companies, I was suffering from declining mental and physical health. I ended up with a medicine cabinet full of pharmaceuticals to manage my anxiety and stress, back and neck pain, and sensitive gut. I knew there had to be a better way. That’s when I found acupuncture. I was drawn to its holistic view of body, mind, and spirit, and its natural approach to healing – providing the body with cues to facilitate its own restoration.
I decided to dedicate the rest of my life to the study and practice of Classical Chinese Medicine and graduated from the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) in Portland with a Doctorate in Acupuncture with a Specialization in Chinese Herbal Medicine (DAcCHM). Now I help people who face the same challenges that almost broke me.
What you can expect
When we feel ill or experience pain, it is the body alerting us to a disorder or imbalance of the body’s resources. While conventional medicine focuses on reducing those alerts (or symptoms), Chinese medicine emphasizes understanding and treating the root cause of imbalance.
Together, we’ll spend time thoroughly assessing your symptoms and desired outcomes. Our initial consultation includes a comprehensive patient interview designed to understand your unique health patterns and areas of concern. We’ll take a classical approach to understanding the root cause of your pain and discomfort.
I have been trained in a variety of treatment methods, including acupuncture, electroacupuncture, herbal medicine, non-insertive therapy, shiatsu and tuina-based bodywork, cupping, and gua sha. Chinese medicine recognizes that each individual presents with unique symptoms and reacts differently to treatment. Once we’ve agreed on a treatment plan tailored to meet your individual needs, we’ll leverage the wisdom and healing power of the incredible system that is your body to address the root causes of imbalance.
We’ll work together to return your body and mind to a state of balance.
I look forward to meeting with you!
