Intrauterine insemination (IUI)

An Intrauterine insemination, often referred to as an ‘IUI’, is a procedure that can be done in-office at Kwan Yin by trained practitioners. An IUI places sperm directly into the uterus around the time of a woman’s ovulation and can help increase odds of fertilization and pregnancy.
A Natural IUI allows for this fertility enhancement, without the use of additional synthetic hormones, such as Clomid or Letrozole. Following an individual’s fertile signs – including cervical mucous, basal body temperature, ovulation predictor kits, and body sensations – you will work with your provider to optimize the timing of the IUI to your own body and unique situation.
At Kwan Yin, an IUI can be done with either frozen sperm or fresh sperm. Frozen sperm is thawed in-office, while fresh sperm needs to be specially prepared using a “wash”. After the sample is either thawed or washed, it is ready to use.
The IUI itself only takes about 5-10 minutes, but we allow 60-90 minutes in total – to prepare/ thaw the sperm and to rest after the procedure. IUI’s are usually not painful, but can sometimes cause some cramping. After the sperm is inserted, the patient will lay down in a comfortable position with their hips elevated for about 30 minutes. During this time, acupuncture and Maya Abdominal Therapy can also be included to optimize fertilization.
At Kwan Yin, we are passionate about helping all individuals optimize their fertility potential. IUIs can be used by single women, GLBTQ individuals/couples, and straight couples with male factor fertility struggles.
