Dr. Emily Mejía, DACM, LAc

My introduction to Chinese medicine started over 30 years ago. I grew up with chronic health challenges, and in my twenties I lived with a migraine that lasted seven years. I learned how to function in pain and experienced how limited many treatment models can be when the focus is only on managing symptoms instead of asking why the pattern is there in the first place. Chinese medicine was the approach that finally helped my body move into wellness. The experience permanently changed how I understand pain, resilience, and what true healing requires.

I earned my Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM), beginning my training at OCOM and completing it through NUNM.

I practice Worsley Five Element acupuncture and am currently in advanced mentorship and residency training with David Berkshire, President of the Worsley Institute. During my clinical training I witnessed Worsley Five Element treatments that affected not only physical symptoms, but something more. The shifts towards deeper healing were subtle but unmistakable. After witnessing that, other approaches began to feel limited in comparison. What continues to draw me to this lineage is its constitutional depth and the precision with which it identifies long-standing patterns without separating the physical from the spirit.

My clinical focus includes chronic pain and persistent migraines, nervous system dysregulation and anxiety, women’s and reproductive health, and complex multi-system conditions such as hypermobility spectrum disorders, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, MCAS, and POTS.

Many of the people who find me are strong, capable, and exhausted. They’ve often been told their labs look “normal,” or that their symptoms are stress-related. Some are curious about energy-based approaches but want them grounded and thoughtfully applied. My work is collaborative and trauma-informed. We move steadily and at your pace. I don’t believe in pushing the door open through dramatic force and instead move gently and with sensitivity to your experience.

Before becoming an acupuncturist, I worked as a birth doula, childbirth educator, and lactation consultant. Supporting people through pregnancy and birth taught me how to hold intensity without panic. I am also a Reiki Master and integrate that work when it genuinely supports the clinical picture.

As a working parent with three children, I understand how much people carry while continuing to show up for their lives. I welcome people of all genders and identities. If your body feels complicated, misunderstood, or chronically overwhelmed, there may be more options than you’ve been told and I would be honored to witness and support that unfolding.
