Sports Medicine Acupuncture (SMA) is a comprehensive system used to diagnose and treat a variety of sports and musculoskeletal injuries. SMA uses Western orthopedic exams, postural assessment (through standing and movement) in conjunction with Chinese Medicine to get a clear picture of the injured tissues and to understand how and why the injury occurred. This information is then used to establish a thorough treatment plan.
Completion of the SMA program involves an intensive, year-long series of classes exclusive to the Licensed Acupuncturist. In-depth examination of sports and orthopedic injuries is the core principle of the program and includes a lot of hands-on examination, cadaver work and intensive lecture. This system establishes a clear and complete treatment plan for every individual.
Sports Medicine Acupuncture can be used to treat a wide variety of sports injuries for everyone from professional and super-serious athletes, school-aged athletes, weekend warriors and the infrequent gym guy and folks just looking to stay active and out of pain. SMA effectively treats joint and muscle conditions and can be used to help increase sports performance, avoid injury and treat acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. SMA incorporates acupuncture, herbs, hands-on massage and specific exercises to guide the patient toward a pain-free and active lifestyle.
This system is very intuitive for the patient, gets people out of pain quickly and back to the activities that they love. Not only limited to sports injuries, SMA can also be readily applied to victims of Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) and those experiencing wear and tear of joints and muscles (repetitive injuries) work-related injuries and all types of weakness.
