How does illness occur?
At various points in our lives, injuries, trauma, illnesses, and/or emotional stress begin to affect us on the physical, emotional or mental levels, weakening different parts of our system and blocking the free flow of energy (qi) that should move with strength and vitality through our bodies. When this progresses far enough, symptoms appear which are labeled in our culture as specific issues or illnesses.
How does acupuncture treat these illnesses?
The largest single benefit of Classical Five Element Acupuncture is that it naturally and effectively treats the deepest imbalance that is at the root of these symptoms and illnesses, whether they manifest physically, emotionally or otherwise. As we discover together where these particular blockages exist, even chronic and complex health problems can be greatly improved or alleviated over time as the blocked, excess or deficient qi is restored. As the body comes back into balance this will also lead to renewed energy and joy, a connectedness to self and others, emotional wellness, and stress reduction in your life. There is often a new and deeper sense of well-being that accompanies treatments, which all patients can experience.
My personal story
My personal journey with Five Element acupuncture started 23 years ago when I began experiencing excruciating back pain. A friend referred me to an acupuncturist and I was quickly amazed at the effects it had on me! While my back pain subsided greatly after several treatments, I also discovered that the stress and busy-ness of my life, as well as an autoimmune disorder I had previously been diagnosed with, were all linked to this back pain. As I walked the road to healing in my acupuncture treatments, it became very clear how interlinked the body, mind, emotions and spirit really were. Although I was a willing partner in the process, as other health related concerns surfaced, they were lifted from me through the treatments seemingly on their own, and I was soon feeling much better and more in harmony with myself. I felt as though a new vitality had awakened within me. The healing and transformative powers of this medicine that I have personally experienced led me to want to share it with others for which I am very grateful.
