Dr. Hyeyeon Kim, N.D., LA.c.
Hello! My name is Hyeyeon (pronounced as hay-yun). I am a naturopathic doctor and licensed acupuncturist.
Born and raised in South Korea, I grew up in a rich culture of natural medicine and healing traditions. I aided my grandmother in using moxa for her arthritic knees, helped my mom cook herbs, and observed my uncle inserting needles into his patients’ bodies. These deeply imprinted memories and experiences have shaped my view of the body, disease, and healing processes and led me to undertake the challenging yet fulfilling journey into naturopathic and Chinese medicine at the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) in Portland, Oregon.
Deeply rooted in the wisdom of East Asian healing traditions, I am dedicated to deepening oy understanding of human anatomy and physiology. Through a blended approach of East Asian medicine and Western biomedicine, I empower the innate healing ability that resides in you.
While I am well-versed in pharmaceuticals and compounded medications, I use food before medicine, striving to turn to medication as a last resort. I integrate Chinese herbal formulas which is based on pattern recognition, offer gentle manual therapies such as visceral manipulation and craniosacral therapy. I also utilize biotherapeutic drainage, homeopathy, and injection therapy such as Perineural Injection Therapy (PIT).
No matter what modalities I use, I take a personalized approach to every patient, tailoring treatment to their unique needs and goals, focusing on treat individuals as a whole person rather than symptoms.
I graduated with high honors from NUNM with a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine. I have completed the Council of Naturopathic Medical Education (CNME) approved three years of residency, with 2 years under Edythe Vickers, ND, LAc at An Hao Natural Health Care Clinic in Portland, OR.
During this time, I had the privilege of working with nearly 5,000 patients, gaining invaluable experience in managing a spectrum of health challenges, including chronic pain, digestive issues, autoimmune conditions, endocrine disorders, and various types of cancer.
Before delving into medicine, I earned a master’s degree in Women’s Studies in S. Korea and worked for non-profit organizations. These experiences significantly shaped my passion for social epidemiology. In simple terms, it’s about understanding how society’s structures affect people’s health. My goal is to comprehend the broader contexts of illness and provide valuable resources to address it.
In my spare time, I love to cook and share meals with my loved ones, play ukulele, and wander around the beautiful PNW with my partner and two amazing Labradoodles, Charlie and Nugget.
