Dr. Loren Lubin, ND, L.Ac.
A Personal Message from Dr. Loren Lubin:
My passion is helping Portlanders like you navigate complex, chronic illnesses with as much strength and grace as possible. Having weathered my own personal health challenges, I know firsthand how challenging the path to wellness can be. It is not simple or straightforward, and it can often be very lonely.
I am grateful and humbled to help patients achieve and sustain long-term wellness. As a former middle school teacher, I think of my work in medicine as an evolution of my time as an educator. Knowledge is empowering and helps us understand the complexity and wisdom of our bodies. Your body has the inherent ability to heal itself. Sometimes it just needs a little guidance.
Dr. Lubin’s Bio
Dr. Loren Lubin is a board certified Naturopathic Physician and Licensed Acupuncturist. She received her B.S. in Biology and Society from Cornell University and her Naturopathic Doctorate and Master’s of Science in Oriental Medicine from the National University of Natural Medicine.
Dr. Lubin grew up outside of New York City with a strong sense of curiosity and a love of learning. She discovered her passion for teaching and the importance of strong, supportive relationships when she underwent an intensive teacher training program with Teach for America, teaching middle school science to underserved students in Houston. Instead of focusing on superficial problems, Dr. Lubin infuses her love of teaching and learning into her clinical practice, empowering her patients to take an active role in their health.
Dr. Lubin combines modern diagnostic techniques with carefully selected natural therapies to restore the body’s innate ability to heal. As an integrative physician, Dr. Lubin is able to draw from a broad toolkit that includes Chinese and Western herbal medicine, nutritional supplements, homeopathy, acupuncture, visceral manipulations, as well as dietary and lifestyle education. Through this versatility, she is able to individualize a treatment plan to best fit your life, addressing root causes and removing obstacles to health.
Throughout her six-year program in Naturopathic and Chinese medicine, Dr. Lubin worked with mentors specializing in chronic gastrointestinal disorders, adjunctive cancer care, women’s health, and complex immune dysfunction (e.g., Lyme Disease and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome).
In addition to her classroom and clinical training at NUNM, Dr. Lubin completed a two-year preceptorship with Dr. Stacey Raffety, gaining deep insight into the treatment of Chronic Lyme Disease. This mentorship has been the foundation of Dr. Lubin’s focus on treating Lyme Disease and its myriad of bacterial, viral and parasitic co-infections. Dr. Lubin is passionate about treating Lyme Disease with an integrative and multifaceted approach that reaches beyond short-term antimicrobial interventions.
Dr. Lubin attended the 2016 ILADS Conference (International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society) and has attended numerous conferences and lectures on Lyme since choosing to focus her practice on the disease. Her Chinese Medicine thesis focused on an herbal approach to Lyme and associated illnesses.
While in private practice at Kwan Yin Healing Arts center, Dr. Lubin is also currently completing a rigorous two-year residency with Dr. Edie Vickers at the An Hao Natural Health Clinic in NW Portland, where she has received extensive training in autoimmune disorders, chronic pain, adjunctive cancer care, thyroid disorders, women’s health and family medicine.
In her free time, she enjoys swimming, practicing yoga and going for long hikes with her husband. She is also an avid baker and loves transforming her traditional family recipes into gluten-free and paleo versions.
