Craniosacral

Craniosacral therapy is a family of light-touch bodywork therapies that address restrictions in the subtle movement of bones, joints and fascia, especially in the skull and spine. The name comes from the primary areas contacted during treatment, the cranium (skull) and sacrum (in the center of your glutes). Some practitioners also work with the internal organs, nerves, and vessels. Craniosacral therapy uses as its central evaluative tool the subtle expansion and contraction created in the body by the production and resorption of cerebro-spinal fluid. In a healthy body, this can be felt in every tissue in the system, and the ease of its movement is a marker of health. Restrictions to the flow of this pulse identify areas needing treatment, which may or may not be near to areas experiencing pain. After a brief intake, the client, typically clothed, rests quietly on a massage table, often entering a state of deep relaxation between sleep and waking. The level of touch is very light, and this form of bodywork often straddles the artificial boundary between energetic bodywork and physical bodywork, depending on the training of the practitioner and the needs of the client. This can be a great form of care for disorders of the head, spine, nervous system, or any condition in which guarding around an injury has made other care difficult.
